The Journey of Forgiveness: How Hoʻoponopono Heals Relationships, Self-Worth, and brings us into Wholeness!

Forgiveness is one of the most misunderstood spiritual practices.

We are often taught that forgiveness is something we offer outward—to let someone else off the hook, to move on, to be the “bigger person.” But true forgiveness is not about bypassing pain, excusing behavior, or pretending something didn’t affect us.

True forgiveness is an act of radical responsibility.

The journey of forgiveness asks us to take 100% responsibility for everything we do not like in our present life and in our past. Not from a place of blame or self-judgment, but from sovereignty. This practice teaches us that everything comes from us. We are the creators. The movie directors. The ones shaping the themes, relationships, challenges, and lessons of this lifetime.

At a soul level, we chose this journey—not to suffer, but to heal. To remember. To come back to the knowing that we are divine beings, whole just as we are. All the pain and suffering we have experienced has ultimately been in service of bringing us back to this truth.

One of the most powerful tools I have worked with on this path is the ancient Hawaiian prayer of Hoʻoponopono. In its modern form, the prayer is simple:

  1. I’m sorry.
  2. Please forgive me.
  3. Thank you.
  4. I love you.

These four phrases work at a subconscious, energetic, and cellular level, clearing stored memories, emotional imprints, and unconscious patterns that keep us tied to suffering. You do not need to know exactly what you are clearing. You only need to be willing to take responsibility and let go.

What makes this practice so profound is that it teaches us to stop looking outside of ourselves for resolution. We are no longer trying to fix another person, rewrite the past, or seek validation. We are clearing our own energetic field. And when that happens, life begins to shift naturally. Relationships soften or fall away without drama. Emotional charge dissolves. We begin to feel more at home within ourselves.

Hoʻoponopono forgiveness practice

When I work with Hoʻoponopono, the very first place I begin—beyond forgiving myself—is with my mother. This is true whether you have a close relationship with your mother, a strained one, no relationship at all, or if you were adopted and do not know your biological mother. Energetically, the mother is our core relationship. This is where we first learn love and nurturing, safety and belonging, being seen and tended to, and whether or not we feel worthy and deserving. Even when these needs were not met, the imprint lives on in the subconscious and energetic body.

This is why this relationship is such a powerful portal for healing.

I personally use a 108-times repetition practice, which takes about 13 minutes. Before I begin, I state out loud: I take 100% responsibility for everything I do not like in my life now and in my past. Then I begin the prayer. I speak who I am addressing before saying the four phrases—my mother, little Sloane (my inner child), my higher self, my body, my business, money, my clients, or anyone I have experienced challenge with. I repeat the prayer slowly, with deep feeling and presence, 108 times.

I return to my mother at least once a day, and more often if I feel out of sorts or emotionally unsettled.

To support the body and nervous system, I often play 432 hertz music or heart chakra frequency tones in the background. I layer in essential oils such as grapefruit, peppermint, rosewood, or frankincense, placing them over my heart or on my wrists. I inhale deeply three times, allowing the scent to move through my sensory system. This anchors the practice into the body, not just the mind.

This practice is not always quiet or tidy. Sometimes I cry. Sometimes memories surface. Sometimes emotions move quickly, and other times they unfold slowly. I let it all come. I do not hold anything back. This is the beauty of this work. You are clearing your energetic field, your subconscious mind, and your entire biofield.

As this clearing happens, space opens. Space in relationships. Space around money. Space in how you experience love, connection, and worthiness.

Money, in particular, carries emotional memory. Scarcity, guilt, fear, and unworthiness are often rooted in early experiences or inherited beliefs. As these layers clear, receiving begins to feel safer. Over-giving and undercharging soften. Deserving no longer feels conditional. Forgiveness dissolves the inner resistance that keeps abundance at a distance.

The key to this practice is commitment. You must be willing to tune in, take responsibility, release judgment, and allow forgiveness to move through you fully. This is not about being perfect. It is about being honest. Forgiveness is not something you do once—it becomes a way of relating to life.

This year, I have stepped more deeply into this practice than ever before, and it has brought me into a level of inner peace and healing I didn’t know was possible. I am deeply grateful for Hoʻoponopono—not as a concept, but as a living, breathing practice that continues to free me layer by layer.

Forgiveness truly is our path to FREEDOM, WHOLENESS and the way to elevate your frequency and field to elevate your whole life.

So, I ask you, does staying in the rightness or holding onto what has passed really worth the suffering and stagnation it is causing you?

Where to begin

Forgiveness is never about the other person.

It’s about clearing the field — clearing what stands in the way of you remembering that you are part of the divine — and bringing you back to zero point.

I made the Hoʻoponopono Journal to make that beginning easy. It isn’t a study of the practice. It’s a doorway: the phrases, a structure to move through them, and room to get comfortable with the work.

You don’t have to understand it before you start. That’s what the journal is for.
